Microsoft last week at its annual Build developer's conference made some major announcements ahead of Windows 10's summer release on PCs. A Microsoft executive at the side lines of the Build conference also confirmed that the venerable Windows Media Center app will not be available in Windows 10.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
While talking to ZDNet, a Microsoft executive revealed that there will be no update for the Windows Media Centre for Windows 10.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The news may come as a surprise for some, though considering that Microsoft stopped developing Windows Media Center back in 2009 it was just matter of time when the company finally pulled the plug on the app.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This also means that any desktop that is upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 can no longer run the Media Center. ZDNet also points out that the last released Windows Media Center build "isn't compatible with Windows 10."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
To recall, Microsoft's Windows Media Center was a digital media player developed by Microsoft. It could play and record live television while could also organising and playing digital images, music and video. It came pre-installed in Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate editions, and all Windows 7 editions (not included in Starter and Home Basic versions). Later, it was also available as an add-on for Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Last week, Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President, Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, revealed that Microsoft was "on track" for a summer release of Windows 10 and clarified that it would initially arrive for PCs followed by other devices - smartphones, HoloLens, Xbox, and Surface devices. He suggested that Windows 10 for PC will miss out on some features at launch. Unfortunately, Microsoft is yet to reveal an exact time frame for the Windows 10 PC release.</div>

In a surprising move, Microsoft is now letting developers repackage their Android and iOS apps for Windows 10. Developers will be able to quickly port their app over, with equivalent system-level APIs in Windows that will support as well as extend the app’s functionality. Microsoft will include an Android subsystem on Windows 10 for phones and have supporting APIs for iOS apps. The above image is a demo of an Android app, accessing Windows phone’s native controls and APIs, but the remaining code is the same. This way, it drastically cuts down development costs which companies just can’t afford, to re-write for a platform without substantial market share.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This is similar to the strategy which Blackberry adopted, but this is also similar to what Google adopted, when Android wasn’t getting apps from iOS. They made porting easier, and that’s what Blackberry then, and Microsoft now, have done. Android developers will be able to code Android apps using Visual Studio and re-compile it, with Windows 10-specific APIs in a short time, so they can launch on all platforms at once. Most developers these days rely only on Android and iOS. This is very similar to the work Nokia did for the Nokia X, which might have played a role here too. Navigation in the UI is now more similar, and even the desktop gets the all-important back button for letting them be universal apps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
King’s Candy Crush Saga was shown as an example of an iOS game ported to Windows Phone without many modifications. Microsoft is basically virtualizing these apps in its operating system, a common method adopted for this approach. These solutions are part of the new SDKs that will aim to attract developer interest to the dwindling platform, that is Windows. The possibility of developers porting to Windows Phone is now higher, but will it bridge the mobile industry gap to at least some extent? It certainly didn’t work out for Blackberry or Amazon, but Microsoft has a decently talented hardware division at its disposal, which, we hope, creates possibilities, may be? Sound off your opinions in the comments section below.</div>

Microsoft, carrying on with its unification plan for Windows 10, on Thursday announced that a new unified Store is now rolling out to Windows Insiders using the new operating system. This store will not only feature 'universal' Windows apps that work across devices like laptops and phones, will also offer music, movie, and TV show content in one place.<br />
<br />
Formerly, with the Xbox Music and Xbox Video apps, users had two separate libraries and stores for their audio and visual content. These will be unified in Windows 10 - if you recall, the company had announced the Xbox Music and Video apps were being rebranded as Music and Video apps in the new OS, and preview versions of the apps were released last month.<br />
<br />
While the unified Store Beta already featured a Movies & TV section with last month's Windows 10 Technical Preview release, the section was empty. Now, forwarding the unified Store experience, the section has been activated for Windows Insiders running the latest build of the preview. Users will now be able to browse and search for videos, rent or purchase movies & TV shows, and play them in the Video Preview app. Users of the Xbox Video app will also see their entire collections in the Video Preview app as well.<br />
<br />
With the new Store beta app that includes the updated Movies & TV section, users will be able to purchase and access content across their Windows 10-based devices.<br />
<br />
Microsoft in its blog post introducing the revamped Store beta app, said, "The experience you will see today is unfinished and we have a lot more work to do. For example - you won't see movie or TV details like cast and crew and you'll only be able to stream video content right now. But don't worry - offline download capability will be coming!"<br />
<br />
The new Movies & TV section of the Store beta can be accessed by US, Canada, Mexico, Austria, Belgium (only movies - no TV content), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand users.<br />
<br />
<i>While the video section has gone live, Microsoft promises the Music page will go live in the coming weeks.</i><br />
